Here is an animation I made recently to explain the use of the callibration mark for SprGr 43. A tutorial on the use of Tiger gun optics can be found here: http://barkmanscorner.t83.net/#/strichplatte/4527707620

Letters and numbers can be added as splines, then converted to editable polys | ||

Just to let anyone interested know, for the gun sights (and anything simillar) in your 3D software, you can make letters and numbers as splines and then
convert them to editable poly's, these can then be rendered with one single texture for Panzer Elite. I.e. A single black texture in the tlb can be used
for a whole gunsight ! (it works)

What is with the rotation of the optics. I know think I understand half of how it should properly work, and more lost then ever ont eh other half.
Are the indication marks the quadrants the plate can be rotated too?
After determining distance, you adjust the trangles above 0. I can do that now as the Alt++ and Alt-- of gun calibration move them. The only error is a calibration of 0 means they never move as this calibration is a multiplier. Your animation explains the mark at #13. Bear with me, but can you show a movement coralation between the range triangles and the MG scale. The problem with the size of the triangles was (After adding verticle movement) that the scale applied to them and the verticle movement were 2 seperate modifications to the rrf. Which was last was the final result. Making them all one modification has cured the problem. Now I'm trying to illuminate the textures (PE Alt-L) for more then wire frame objects. I can do it the same way drivers gauges are animated, but there has to be a more modern way to change there specular color (also, there is not room in the existing TLB). I have determined how to identify individual polys being sent to the video card. I'm in the process of changing there specular color based on the clt-L function. BTW, your visual of range estimation is excellent. I hope it helps others to realize range estimation and gun aim are 2 seperate functions of the shapes viewed. I know that helped me much in understanding the optics.

The previous animation shows the range scale zero being rotated to the callibration mark first, this was for tutorial purposes only (to make a point of showing
the callibration mark as the origin), normally, for one thousand metres, the gun-layer would just dial in 10 next to the callibration mark.
Excellent video Al, good work, your getting there ! There was one sequence in the middle of the video when the triangles were moving well in relation to the range scale rotation. It is the spacing between the MG range scale digits (distance between them) and the relative drop of the triangles to rotation which is crucial for MG range (observe, they are further apart than the 8.8 cm scale). Get this relationship right between MG and 8.8 cm range scale digit distances of the 3D model relative to the rate Panzer Elite code drops (and rises) the triangles, then you've cracked it ! Good Job
Why the difference in MG range scale (digits further apart) ? MG-34 ammo external ballistics characteristics, I.e. Less muzzle velocity, less weight, gyroscopic spin, higher arc, etc, etc.. Good luck with your strichplatt illumination.

I used the 3ds drawing you sent with the change to textures (which regained 4 fps, but I was glad to learn we can run a 8K poly object and only loose 4 fps).
My previous sight was slightly wider for MG then your drawing. I'll have to test fire to know for sure.
The illumination is progressing well. I pray I can put validation of this part of the project behind me in the next few days. Today, I can change change DX9 specular lighting of the polys. I now have to develop the set of rules that prevent it from effecting other parts of the game. An honest thank you for your help with this. It's going to take a bit to have it historicly correct as I am still confused on some aspects. LOL, it would be much easier if they would post the optics to me for one day.

If we put that in the Stugs and Hetzer like it should be, I can already hear the MP crying
5X zoom only, view angle 60% of the Tiger.
