Some details about the history of Panzer Elite (PE) and Panzer Elite Second Edition (PE SE):

At the end of 1999 PE was released by Psygnosis. PE was created and programmed by the subsidiary Wings. This first version of PE was version 1.05. It had a lot of bugs, especially concerning MP. Version 1.05 was updated by a patch to version 1.1. This version was better than the previous version and it was tolerable playable in MP.

In the course of 2000 Psygnosis gave up any occupation with PC games, the subsidiary Wings was taken over by Jowood and by that also all rights of PE.

In 2001 Jowood released PE SE. Base PE was still version 1.1. But buying PE SE one also got a second CD (bonus CD) with several mods of PE:

1. The "Snow and Night mod" created by the Lennort brothers (concerning the snow landscape now a little bit outdated by the winter scenarios of Ostpak),

2. an early version of the Britpak mod (adding British tanks on the Allied side, created by Aldo)

3. the "Full Monty mod" (created by Michael Y.)

4. an early version of the Monty vs Rommel mod (an excellent African mod, created by Michael Y.)

5. an early version of the Ostpak mod (at that time not only created by Bob R. but also by Ed K.)

6. the "Peiper mod", a never finished mod (and therefore pretty buggy mod) of experimental and planned Axis tanks.

In the course of 2002 the patch 1.2 was created by the Lennort brothers, which updates the version 1.1 to version 1.2. The version 1.2 brought PE to a real stability in MP.

So far as I know the rights of PE and PE SE are still owned by Jowood and the code is not free until today.

PE Action was released by Jowood in 2006 ( I am not sure about the exact year). By using PE and adding the word "Action" Jowood tricked the public into believing, it would be a successor of PE SE. But PE Action is only a spitting image of PE and PE SE, it's only an Arcade game but no real tank simulation.
