Posts: 2 (10/21/09 17:21:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Hi all, I FINALLY managed to get PE3 running on my Vista rig using PE-SE from Gog.com. Took a lot of fiddling and I had to install PE-X first before I could get PE3 to work (dunno why, but it did -- otherwise PE3 would crash on me). My installed mods are: Ostpack Complete Ostpack 2008 PE-X PE3 Campaigns2009 Campaigns2010 Also had to fiddle with the dates in the SSlock files to get this to work Anyhoo -- it's all beautiful now -- everything works great (and the game is MUCH BETTER!!!) except that --- I lost my campaigns!!!! Now in the main menu screen I see 'Instant Action', 'Scenarios', etc. but the 'Campaigns' menu item is completely missing!!! Anyone have any ideas?? I'm 99% of the way there, but I'd really like to play a campaign with all of these lovely mods installed!

When you play billiards at the pub, you must also play the quirks of the table. When you play PE, you must also play the quirks of the engine, BUT game crashing is unexceptable.

Posts: 77 (10/22/09 00:48:28) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	You could try this: If you can't get it to work without using PE-X in your install then you could easily remove the files causing your problem with the Campaign menu not showing up. Easiest/safest way is to disable the mods (remember to remove them in the opposite order you enabled them, ie. last mod you enabled is disabled first). Go to the mods folder and into Beta16 then in Desert folder, then Menus folder and in there delete campaignmenu.txt and mainmenu.men. Enable the mods again and test. You might have to remove campaignmenu.men and mainmenu.txt as well, but I can't remember for sure. Alternately you could edit the files in notepad yourself and change to enable the Campaign mode. In this case beta16 an replace the file with a copy of the original with the extension removed. simple if your know how to progam. When you play billiards at the pub, you must also play the quirks of the table. When you play PE, you must also play the quirks of the engine, BUT game crashing is unexceptable.

PEX removed a master file that is needed. This file will return campaing menus back, but I don't know if it will give all the PE3 ones. Let me know. It can be inserted after you've enabled all the mods, or you can put it into the PEX Beta16 Mod. In either case, put it into the \Program Files\PE\Desert\Menus\ folder after enabling PEX (or the \Mods\Beta16\Beta16\Desert\Menus\ folder before enabling PEX): http://pex.panzerelitemods.com/mainmenu.men Hope this helps. Posts: 248 (10/22/09 16:14:35) Sergeant Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Another important piece of advise: If you want to play PE3 the recommended instal is just: 1) PE 1.2 (original PE + 1.2 patch) 2) PE3 3) Campaigns2009 4) Campaigns2010 Are you sure that you have the official Panzer Elite 1.2 patch installed?? Can you set Panzer Elite to play in windows 98 compatibility mode?? A version of the PE-X engine is already included in the PE3 mod. Do not install the PE-X mod if you want to play PE3 !! The PE-X mod is currently being improved, but the new version is still in beta testing stage. Anyway, you should not install both mods at the same time. It might be a bit of a hassle but you should start a fresh install again. Be sure to install everything in the correct order.

Should he have problems in the future, or want to install other mods, then your advice should be followed.

He sure has some options now anyway. And if you do have a stable setup already you could make a backup of that in case something ever goes wrong. If you are going to change only the mainmenu.men and not the campaignmenu.txt as well then you may run in the Brit44/PE-X campaign message telling you This campaign is not playable in Brit44 or something similar. I think these are the 2 important files that are overwriting the ones from Ostpak/PE3 setup, making Campaign mode dis-functional. 1BobR, you are resident expert on PE3. What is your response/advice?

I've got everything working. I worked my way backwards, disabling everything sequentially. Then I re-enabled Ostpak, PE3, Scen2009, Scen2010. Now, miraculously, everything works and I can enter campaigns. I think that a file or files from the original PE-X install must have hung around to make everything work, because when I initially tried to install PE3 (without PE-X), my computer would always hang trying to enter a scenario/instant action. For the record, I did install the 1.2 patch as the very first thing and I am running everything in Win98 compatibility mode. I'm also going to fire up a separate install to try out PE-X (minus PE3) with the latest patch. I'm curious to see the differences. All that being said, I am SUPER IMPRESSED with these mods! I'm a PE 'geezer' from the old days (rode with 4th AD as 'Zhukov') but it's only thanks to Gog.com that I got back into it recently. The mods have really kept this game alive. Thanks to everyone involved. S! Z

Basically I was unsure why PEX was enabled in the mix as the files in PE3 should have overwritten everything in there, presumedly. Glad it all worked out.

This exe is the glue that holds PE together, so setting it should cause the others to run in compatability mode. Durring testing of 16.12 we identified an incorrect build of the sound dll. Correcting this has allowed the game to play again without compatability mode unless you add more then 7 items (aamg etc) to your platoon. Since at least one bug still remains, the official word is set panzer_elite.exe to windows 98 compatability mode. When you play billiards at the pub, you must also play the quirks of the table.
